Shooting Day 2- Tuesday 26th October 2010
Time: 11:30- 1:00 Duration- 1h30 Place: Kilburn Park Road
Cast: Concept Crew: Jordan Abdullah Daniel
On Tuesday 26th October 2010, I wanted to shoot the first 2 verses and the chorus at different locations as I wanted to get a lot of footage recorded on tape for the music video. From the start, Abdullah, Jordan and I first looked at our new locations and started to practise a few camera shots movements as I directed how I wanted the shots to relate to the next shot to create a meaning in the representation throughout the video.
As a group, we examined new locations exploring the camera shots especially the effective trombone shot which we used a number of times on this shooting day. As the director, I first explained to the artist what we were going to do for the shooting and what was expected of him when we are shooting. I allowed him to read through the production schedule for the shooting so that he could be familiar with what to do when it comes to capturing footage on stage.
The first thing we did was to get the artist to do a number of test shots on different locations before actually shooting the completed product. The reason why I went through test shots is to insure timing and camera angles were correct to present dominant ideology in the product. Jordan performed a very long shot while zooming out slowly at the same time. This is known to be a trombone shot which was practised and developed from our camera exercise in college.
The next thing we looked on doing was a hand held camera shot of the artist rapping in front of the camera. Abdullah and Jordan shot this effectively using the tripod as we wanted to see the part of the background atmosphere to allow other symbols/signs to blend in with the shot. I told the artist to not focus on the camera sometimes so he would be looking away from the camera which would be breaking the rules and challenging codes and conventions in the music video.
Abdullah and Jordan shot the chorus at 2 different locations. The 1st and 2nd verse was shot again at location 6 where we were tracking the artist as he was rapping. Jordan was the main cameraman filming the shots, angles and camera movements in the music video as Abdullah assisted Jordan in cinematography playing a role as the 2nd cameraman. As I took my role as director, I took photos of the production while Abdullah and Jordan were recording footage. Out slowly at the same time.ong shot while zooming out slowly at the same time
